Pubs and Nightlife
Pubs were a favorite destination of ours. It took me a bit to realize that pubs are 1) everywhere and 2) the only place to eat really. My favorite conversation about this was between me and my co-worker the first night. It was something like this, (Tyler, still very tired and confused from lack of sleep) "Where are we going to eat?" (CW) "At the pub." (TW) "Isn't that just a bar?" (CW) "No, it's a pub, they're different here. People eat there." (TW) "But people eat at bars too." (CW) "It's a pub! We're eating there!" (TW) "Fair enough, bring on the pints!"
Pubs were definitely a cool place to be but my only gripe is that they close SOO stinking early! Another co-worker told me about this earlier in the week but we had no idea. Most pubs close at like 11 in London! This was a big constraint for us on Friday night when we were finally able to enjoy some time out in London and we instituted a pint per pub policy. This was a tremendous policy since pubs are *everywhere* but it really cuts into some fun when they close at 11. We were able to find one pub that was open until a whopping 1am. That was a experience in and of itself but a story for another time. The only place to really go after 11pm in London is the clubs. My co-worker was not so keen on this so we didn't go unfortunately. C'est la vie
